The Playmakers

　イギリス バームンガム市にあるMidland Art Center (通称:mac birmingham）の５０周年を記念する作品制作を依頼され制作しました。macは現在では年間９０万人以上が利用するミッドランド最大のアートセンターです。このアートセンターの構想から手がけた初代ディレクターのジョン・イングリッシュと彼の妻モリーを等身大のマペットとして制作し、彼らに現在のmacの姿をプレゼンテーションする為のインスタレーションとなりました。また、私達は地元の小学生達とのワークショップを開き、macが位置する自然豊かなキャノンヒルパークの中にから様々な形を集め、それらをモビールとして再構成しました。そして、キャノンヒルパークに集まる動物達のマペットも制作し、それらが全て連動する形で動く仕掛けを行いました。子どもたちが会場で遊べば遊ぶ程、生き生きとマペットが動きだし、ジョンイングリッシュの筆が走ります。会場は様々な活動の受け皿としても機能し、会期中はコンサートやいくつかの体を使ったワークショップが実施されました。

This installation was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Midland Art Center. I chose for the theme of my work that is first director John English and his wife Molly. He made the concept of this art center. Mac is facing the Cannon Hill Park. There are many nature. I got a hint of production from there. For example, mobiles that was suspended in the ceiling which was produced in workshops with children. I started from field work with them. They found out from the form in nature.

When people pull the rope that is installed in the venue, it is to trick to the animals and marionette for moves. John English of marionette was overlooking the gathering of creatures and children, and he drawing a new concept in installation.
